Book junkie Over the weekend, hubby and I did a lot of sorting and organizing of our various "stuff." It was mostly baseball cards and game programs and such, but I also tackled the cabinet where we put books we receive and haven't read yet. I was under the delusion that most of the books in the cabinet were hubby's. Eeep. I was wrong. A good half -- maybe more -- were mine. And some of them have been there waaaay too long. (Apparently *hiding* behing hubby's books!) So, I'm writing this list and will check it often, crossing off titles as I go along. And if you see me write of going to a book sale or checking something out at the library.... stop me! Whisper "Norbury" in my ear! Just make me finish the stash I already have, dammit! This, of course, should not stop *anyone* from gifting me with books. Banish the thought! :) ( Here's my secret stash ) |

I already knew it :p
You Are 80% Boyish and 20% Girlish
|

You have a tough exterior - and usually a tough interior to match it.
You're no nonsense, logical, and very assertive.
Sometimes you can't understand women at all, even if you're a woman yourself.
You see things rationally, and don't like to let your emotions get the best of you.

*ignores work* So last night I started telling shleemeri about how Spencer in my high school verse plans out this whole night where he's going to totally seduce Jon (i.e. baby's first blowjob!), only he ends being somewhat of an adorable failboat about the whole thing, and Jon just looks at him with huge hearts in his eyes while simultaneously being ridiculously hot and patient. For whatever reason, THIS IS MY SPENCER IN THAT SCENARIO. Not to mention the Ryan and Brendon that are soon to have their own stupid story in said verse. ♥___♥ Baby booooooys. EDIT: ( JON WALKER SHUT YOUR FACE RIGHT NOW ) Current Mood: okay |

This afternoon? Not so much. Yeah, the day seems to be neatly divided between productive and miserable. My digestive tract went completely wonky on me. God, I loathe summer sometimes. I really am trying to like it but between the heat and humidity and the fact that I never feel really well when both are high, it seems like a losing battle. Now I'm eating mashed potatoes and Immodium when all I really want is some cold fruit, which I recognize as one of those Bad Ideas that seem worth the trouble but are probably not.
I was able to get the laptop connected to the internet, but I can't seem to set up a home network to connect the laptop and the desktop. It's not critical; mostly I just wanted to be able to share the printer. Meh, I'll keep working on it.
I was notified that one of my favorite bowls is the subject of a recall because it may exceed standards for lead and/or cadmium. Swell.
I'm going to go get some cold tea and sit down in front of the TV. Nothing else seems worth the trouble. |

I so rock I got up about 9:30 today when Glinda phoned and asked me to make sure to close her windows if it started pissing down rain. So far it's only been a gentle sprinkle so I've left them open. Then I got down to work.
- I made a list of stuff that needs doing today.
- I wrote my new alderman and expressed my concern over the state of the intersection near my place, saying that it should be a four-way stop and that both streets should have speed bumps or roundabouts. Glinda and Jim saw what could have been a very, very bad accident the other night, and it stemmed from two drivers who were speeding down side streets. I also wrote him about the Chicago recycling program. We're not part of the roll out wards, but we can urge our aldermen to get on the list, which I did. Before I did that, though, I did check for local drop-off points. Alas, the one is rather far from here and without a car wouldn't be easy to get to with a ton of recycling. I'm trying to save glass containers to reuse, but there's a lot of other stuff that needs attending to.
- I phoned Patsy and chatted with her for a while, and asked her to come pick up her bags and boxes (I save them for her and she uses them for packing stuff or for doggie poop.)
- I phoned World Market and told them that I was missing my wind chimes. The gal I spoke to found them and has set them aside. Jim is picking them up because he's just one of the nicest guys on the planet.
- I phoned Dish Network and asked why they're charging me for an account that's defunct. They're sending me a refund.
- I found our polling place (two blocks away.)
- I ordered timers for my grow cart and for a bit of burglar control.
- I got CF bulbs to replace the reflectors that have gone out in my kitchen.
- Also found a good compost bin and some rodent repellant so we will begin composting soon.
- Now I'm getting ready to fill out forms to get different (cheaper) health insurance.
- At some point I need to get breakfast/lunch
- I want to set up my home network
- I'm going to be culling books and other media for the senior sale over at the park.
- And I need to take the garbage out.

How do I know I'm home?? WIthin moments of stepping out of the car - to check the baby bunniez, who are huge now - a gnat flew in my left eye, immediately followed by one targeting my right eye. I'm blind, but home. Stupid fucking gnats!!

Vacation! Ready or not, the airport shuttle van comes to pick me up at 5:15 tomorrow morning, and a few hours later I'll be on a plane first to Newark, New Jersey, and then, after a layover and a plane change, en route to Edinburgh. After that it's a two-hour train ride, and I'll finally fetch up on kleio_caissa's doorstep. There is castle-visiting planned, and Nessie-hunting out on the loch. (I told them at work that if I spot her and get a good photo, I'm resigning immediately. Otherwise, I'm back home on July 26th, and back to the office on the 28th.) Fou, the Domi and Nico dolls are going with me to meet their British cousins. Nico is particularly interested in a comparison with his clone, as he feels you may have shortchanged him just a bit. And I'm not talking about the pins. ;-) If you'd like a postcard, please email your address to aswanargent@gmail.com. It's possible that my snail mail address list will turn up before I leave, but it's just as likely it won't. And babycakesin, I never did get an Edmonton mailing address for you. :-( Any tennis fans out there? Anyone watch the Federer-Nadal Wimbledon men's final? Anyone else an emotional wreck when it was over? Silvio Lappy isn't coming to Scotland with me, but I'll have internet access and will try to start getting caught up on my flist. I make no promises about posts, though, because there'll be other things occupying my time. See what I mean? Current Mood: excitedCurrent Music: "Nessun dorma" |

Meloni in Leaving LA (episode 1) I watched the first episode of Leaving LA tonight, and I thought it was pretty good. Well... it was *made* pretty good by my intense love of all things Meloni. But it wasn't BAD either.
And thus, a new review slash recap slash snarky thoughts can be found ( here for Episode 1 ) Current Mood: creativeCurrent Music: Meloni waxing philosophical in my ear |

Fic: i'll say it anyway I was watching the video for A-Ha's Take On Me and immediately thought that Cobra would do an amazing cover of it. Then I started thinking about an AU to the video, like you do, and this happened. It's not crackier than bandom puppies, but IDK, it's pretty close. *hands* Not beta'd, all mistakes are mine. For imntsaying, who had a rough day yesterday. ♥ i'll say it anywayJon/Spencer | 3000 words | PG-13 Spencer's never been one for comics.( but that's me stumbling away ) Current Mood: dorky |
